Saskatchewan continued its upward climb in new COVID-19 cases Tuesday.
The Ministry of Health reported 1,027 new cases Tuesday, the fourth time in five days the province has surpassed 1,000 new cases.
New cases were detected in 3,537 tests, meaning 29 per cent of the tests in the province returned a positive result.
Active cases in the province increased by 479, pushing the total to 8,229.
Two more people are in Saskatchewan hospitals with COVID compared to Monday’s data, upping the total to 121 people.
Intensive care numbers remained the same at 11 people.
There weren’t any deaths reported for the fifth consecutive day. To date, 961 Saskatchewan residents have died due to COVID.
A look at the numbers
New cases were reported in the: Regina (224), Saskatoon (378), southeast (92), central-east (71), south-central (49), north-central (39), northwest (36), southwest (18), central-west (15), northeast (15), far northwest (13) and far northeast (nine) zones.
Fifteen cases were assigned to the northwest (seven), north-central (one), Saskatoon (three), central-west (two), and Regina (two) zones.
There are 125 new cases without hometown information.
Another 113 Saskatchewan residents who tested positive out-of-province were added to the case count, which now stands at 94,080.
The seven-day average of new COVID cases rose to 980, or 81.3 per 100,000 people.
There were 661 recoveries reported Monday, increasing that total to date to 84,890.
Of the 1,301 vaccinations completed Monday, 395 were first shots and 906 were second jabs.
To date, more than 1.81 million COVID vaccinations have been done in Saskatchewan, including 869,541 second doses.
Public health violations
Between Dec. 27, 2021 and Jan. 3, 2022, the provincial COVID enforcement team issued the following $2,800 tickets for failure to abide by the current public health orders:
- Whole Leaf Healing Tree in Regina
- Kingdom Sound Academy in Swift Current
- Sweet Treats Candy Company in Moose Jaw
SKBuilt Gym in Regina received the $2,800 for failure to mask and was handed a $14,000 fine for failure to check for proof of vaccination or a negative test.
Additionally, individuals at or near Kindersley Church in Kindersley, Holy Family Catholic Church in Regina and Central Avenue Hair Studio in Swift Current were also issued fines for not abiding by public health orders.
