Saskatchewan added 105 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, the highest single-day case count in the province since 108 cases were added to the total Nov. 26.
The province also reported 14 more cases of the Omicron variant had been detected.
The Ministry of Health said there are 96 cases of the new variant in Saskatchewan, with 27 confirmed and another 69 probable cases detected through screening.
One more person in the 60-to-79 age range has died due to COVID-19. A total of 944 people in Saskatchewan have died since the beginning of the pandemic.
A look at the numbers
The new cases were located in the Saskatoon (46), Regina (22), central-west (nine), central-east (seven), northwest (seven), south-central (four), southeast (three) and far northeast (two) zones.
Five new cases are pending hometown information.
Thirty-six more people recovered from COVID-19 Wednesday, with 627 cases considered active.
Forty per cent of the new cases are in the 20-to-39 age category, and more than half of the new cases, or 53.9 per cent, were not fully vaccinated.
There are 91 people with COVID in Saskatchewan hospitals, the lowest total since there were 89 COVID hospitalizations on Aug. 21.
The total announced Wednesday included 61 people receiving inpatient care and 30 people in ICU. Of the 91 patients, 52 people — or 57 per cent — were not fully vaccinated.
The new cases were detected in 1,897 tests.
The seven-day average of new cases rose to 68, or 5.7 cases per 100,000 people.
To date, there have been 82,442 cases reported in Saskatchewan along with 80,871 recoveries.
There were 1,999 doses of COVID vaccines administered in the latest reporting period, comprising 969 first shots and 1,030 second doses.
To date, 1,789,368 shots have been given in Saskatchewan, with 851,068 second jabs.
