It’s the shortest day of the year Tuesday — and the official start of winter.
Environment Canada meteorologist David Phillips joined the Greg Morgan Morning Show on Tuesday to talk about what the first official week of winter could look like.
He says a blast of frigid air could be welcoming people as they open presents on Christmas morning.
“We’re getting some Siberian air. We’re going to see some pretty cold temperatures from Christmas Eve right through until early January,” Phillips said. “Our end of December will be colder than normal, which is something we haven’t seen since last February.”
As of Tuesday, Environment Canada is predicting temperatures around the -20 C mark for Regina and around -25 C for Saskatoon.
Some snow is expected for both regions on Christmas as well, but precipitation totals have yet to be determined.
