Saskatchewan people booked a record number of COVID-19 vaccination appointments Monday following the booster eligibility expansion.
On Monday, 32,337 people booked an appointment, establishing a new daily record and surpassing the old record by nearly 5,000 doses. The previous record was 27,379 on June 21.
Eighty per cent of bookings were for people aged 18 to 49. The eligibility for booster shots expanded Monday to include anyone 18 and older, provided three months have passed since a person’s second dose.
To date, 227,768 third and fourth doses have been given in Saskatchewan.
The province also updated its vaccine and testing availability over the holidays, saying drive-thru and walk-in testing will continue to be offered along with vaccinations. However, hours may change on short notice.
The latest information can be found at the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s website.
In addition to using rapid COVID-19 self-test kits before gathering with friends or family, the province is advising people who gather to open a window for a couple of minutes every now and then to increase ventilation.
From Friday through Monday, the COVID-19 dashboard on the province’s website will not be updated. On Dec. 28, the website will include the accumulated number of positive cases over the four-day period and a breakdown of cases by day.
The dashboard will also not be updated from Jan. 1 to Jan. 3. Those daily updates will appear on Jan. 4, along with a breakdown of cases.
