Matt Schule may believe it’s better to give than to receive, but the Saskatoon man is receiving an award for giving back to his community.
Schule is this year’s Rock 102 Holiday Heroes winner.
Matt’s mother Nancy Schule nominated her son for the award and explained just how big of an impact he makes in the community for so many people.
“He’s always there for everybody,” Nancy Schule said. “He’s such a great guy and anytime anybody ever needs anything, he’s always there for them.”
Nancy says Matt’s kindness goes back to his childhood telling the story about when he put his clothes in the lost and found so a child at school who didn’t have enough clothes could claim them.
This was the second year the local radio station has run the campaign. Nominees could be anyone from a first responder to a neighbour who went above and beyond.
The news surprised Matt Schule when he found out he had been named the winner.
“(I’m) shocked,” he said. “I guess I never expected anything like this to happen. I’ve got to give a shoutout to my mom for doing something like this.”
Schule has a very impressive resume when it comes to helping people.
He volunteers with the Saskatchewan Baseball Association and is the president of the umpire association. While staying busy with both of those, Schule makes time to run a mentorship program to get more kids involved with playing baseball.
During the day, Schule is a teacher at Dr. John G. Egnatoff School.
The resume goes to show that Schule wants to make a difference in as many different areas as possible.
