The number of active COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan rose for a second straight day Friday.
The Ministry of Health said there were 653 active cases, an increase of 31 from the previous day.
There were 69 new cases reported along with 42 recoveries and one death. A person in the 20-to-39 age group from the Saskatoon region was the 937th Saskatchewan resident to die due to COVID.
The number of people in the province’s intensive care units increased by three from Thursday’s update, to 33. There also were 84 people receiving inpatient care.
One Saskatchewan resident remained in an Ontario ICU.
A look at the numbers
Saskatoon reported the highest number of new cases, with 20. There also were new infections reported in the Regina (13), southeast (11), central-east (six), south-central (six), north-central (five), northwest (one), central-west (one) and southwest (one) zones.
The hometowns of five new cases were still being determined.
The total Friday included 39 people who weren’t vaccinated, with 12 of those between the ages of five and 11, and eight under the age of five.
There also were 26 cases among people who were considered fully vaccinated, and four among individuals who were partially vaccinated.
Five residents who tested positive outside of Saskatchewan were added to the province’s total number of cases to date, which stood at 81,646. There have been 80,056 recoveries reported so far.
The seven-day average of new cases was 60, or 4.9 per 100,000 people.
There were 1,436 first shots and 750 second shots done among the COVID vaccinations reported. To date, more than 1.771 million vaccinations have been done in Saskatchewan, including 843,042 second shots.
