Another Saskatchewan resident who was being treated in an Ontario intensive care unit has returned to their home province.
As of Thursday, there were still six people from Saskatchewan being cared for in Ontario. The Saskatchewan government sent nearly 30 patients east to ease the burden on this province’s health-care system due to COVID-19.
In its daily COVID update, the Ministry of Health said there also were 96 new cases, 96 recoveries and one death.
An individual in the 20-to-39 age group is the 915th Saskatchewan resident to die due to COVID since the start of the pandemic.
There are 142 COVID patients in Saskatchewan health-care facilities, with 38 in intensive care. The total number of hospitalizations dropped by seven from Wednesday’s report, but the number of ICU cases increased by one.
A look at the numbers
The new cases were reported in the Regina (20), southeast (19), central-east (19), Saskatoon (12), southwest (six), northwest (five), south-central (five), north-central (three), northeast (three), far northeast (two) and central-west (one) zones. The hometown of one case is pending.
There were 2,160 tests done in the province on Wednesday.
The seven-day average of new COVID cases remained steady at 95, or 7.9 per 100,000 people.
More than one-third of the new cases aged 12 and over were fully vaccinated.
There have been 80,667 cases reported in Saskatchewan to date and 78,759 recoveries. The active caseload in the province dropped by one to 993.
The province reported 1,834 vaccinations in the latest reporting period, with 455 first shots and 1,379 second shots.
The number of shots delivered to kids aged five to 11 wasn’t included in the province’s data Thursday, but could be on the dashboard Friday. That age group became eligible for vaccination on Wednesday.
To date, 1,716,356 doses have been delivered in the province and 831,068 people are considered fully vaccinated.
