Nearly 40 per cent of the COVID-19 cases reported in Saskatchewan on Wednesday were kids under the age of 11.
In its daily COVID update, the Ministry of Health said there were 47 cases in that age group — the only one that currently isn’t eligible to get a COVID vaccination. There were 121 new infections in total.
The ministry also reported 166 recoveries and four deaths. That dropped the active caseload to 1,374, the lowest it has been since Aug. 19, when it was 1,203.
Three of the latest fatalities were in the 80-and-over age group and one was between the ages of 40 and 59. There were two deaths reported in the southeast zone, with one in each of the north-central and southwest regions.
To date, 878 Saskatchewan residents have died due to COVID.
The number of COVID patients in the province’s hospitals dropped by six, to 187, but ICU admissions rose to 52 — the highest that number has been since it was 55 on Nov. 1.
One ICU patient who had been transferred to Ontario returned to Saskatchewan. There now are 14 people from this province getting treatment in Ontario.
