It wasn’t just students running to make the morning school bell.
A moose ended up inside a Saskatoon school Thursday morning after crashing through a window at Sylvia Fedoruk School in Evergreen.
“A moose broke through the glass of the community room at the before-school program. The moose is injured and down in the room,” said a note issued to parents.
No students were hurt, but Saskatoon Public Schools spokesperson Veronica Baker said some children were shaken up by the ordeal.
Conservation officers with the help of Saskatoon police tranquillized the animal and removed it from the classroom around 10:30 a.m.
Steve Dobko, an inspector with the Conservation Officer Service with the Ministry of Environment, said the situation started first thing in the morning.
“It was a very dynamic situation,” Dobko said. “We received the first call at about 5:30 this morning. Unfortunately, (the moose) took the wrong turn, and it got into the situation where it went through a glass window at Sylvia Fedoruk School.”
Dobko said the situation was bizarre for them seeing a moose make it into a school in the city.
“This is a first for us here in Saskatoon,” he said. “Once they enter a building, it becomes a little bit more of a stressful situation to deal with.”
The moose wasn’t the only one running around Saskatoon on Thursday morning. Dobko said officials were monitoring a second moose that made its way into the city limits.
“We have reports that there’s another moose in the city,” Dobko confirmed. “We do have a number of moose that frequent the city. It’s not uncommon for moose to be in the city of Saskatoon.”

Several parents and homeowners waited outside the school patiently as the situation unfolded.
Ben Denis lives right next to the school and heard a strange noise coming from outside first thing this morning.
“I was working in my home office in the upstairs room and I heard some ‘thump, thump thump’. I looked out my window and there’s this moose walking down my back alley,” Denis stated.
Classes at the school are running as normal again.
