The seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan continued its downward trajectory Friday.
In its daily update, the Ministry of Health said the average had fallen by nine from Thursday’s update to 209, or 17.3 per 100,000 people. The average has dropped by more than 33 per cent since Oct. 22, when it was 312.
The ministry also said there were 238 new cases and 269 recoveries, dropping the active caseload to 2,364.
There also were three more deaths due to COVID reported — two in the 60-to-79 age group and one in the 40-to-59 age range. One fatality was reported in each of the far northwest, north-central and central-east regions.
The COVID-related death toll in Saskatchewan since the pandemic started stands at 846.
The number of COVID patients in the province’s hospitals also fell, dropping by 22 from Thursday’s update to 238. That included 184 people receiving inpatient care and 54 in intensive care.
A look at the numbers
The new cases were located in the Saskatoon (61), Regina (40), southeast (28), central-east (28), northwest (26), north-central (15), far northeast (eight), south-central (seven), northeast (five), far northwest (four), central-west (three) and southwest (three) zones.
The hometowns of 10 cases are still being identified.
The total included 169 people who weren’t vaccinated, 55 fully vaccinated individuals and 14 people who were partially vaccinated.
The unvaccinated group included 66 children under the age of 11, the only group that currently isn’t eligible to get a dose of a COVID vaccine.
To date, there have been 77,305 cases of COVID in Saskatchewan as well as 74,095 recoveries.
Of the 238 patients in Saskatchewan hospitals, 165 weren’t fully vaccinated.
As of Friday, 22 ICU patients had been transferred from Saskatchewan to Ontario. Two patients are to be sent east over the next three days as well.
The 3,974 doses of COVID vaccine administered in the province comprised 1,276 first doses and 2,698 second shots.
As of Friday, 1,660,155 doses had been given in Saskatchewan and 790,521 people had received two shots.
