John Tortorella on ESPN was simple and accurate on why everyone who knew and was told about the assault on Kyle Beach within the Chicago Blackhawks needs to face their punishment.
Tortorella was exasperated that there wasn’t one guy in the leadership core who had Beach’s back. Not one. He and many others can’t believe there wasn’t one person who said they needed to protect their 20-year-old prospect.
That’s why former head coach Joel Quenneville was forced to resign as the Florida Panthers’ head coach and it’ll be interesting to see if former Chicago exec Kevin Cheveldayoff faces the same fate today.
In the power structure of the Blackhawks organization at the time of the fateful meeting in May of 2010, Cheveldayoff would have been at the bottom and, according to the report, he didn’t say much in the meeting.
But as Tortorella said, it would have only taken one person to put Kyle Beach first on the priority list. And no one in the room did. Stan Bowman, Al MacIsaac and Joel Quenneville lost their ability to lead because of their decision. Why should it be any different for the Jets’ general manager?
