Saskatchewan reported 11 deaths due to COVID-19 on Thursday, pushing the death toll related to the virus in October to 149.
Twenty-six people from the province have died as a result of COVID in the past three days.
The latest fatalities include five people in each of the 60-to-79 and 80-and-over age groups and one in the 40-to-59 age range.
The deaths comprised two people from each of the Regina, central-east and south-central zones, and one person from each of the far northwest, northwest, Saskatoon, central-west and southwest regions.
To date, 843 Saskatchewan residents have died due to COVID.
The Ministry of Health also reported 237 new cases and 268 recoveries. The active caseload fell to 2,398, the first time it has been under 2,400 since Sept. 1.
There were 260 COVID patients in Saskatchewan hospitals, including 58 in intensive care.
So far, Saskatchewan has sent 19 ICU patients to Ontario, with nine more to follow over the next four days.
A look at the numbers
The new cases were reported in the Saskatoon (63), Regina (47), southeast (32), central-east (25), north-central (18), northwest (14), far northeast (11), south-central (10), southwest (seven), northeast (five) and far northwest (one) zones. The hometowns of four cases are pending.
The cases included 168 people who weren’t vaccinated, with 65 of those under the age of 11 — the group that currently isn’t eligible to be vaccinated.
There also were 50 cases among people who were totally vaccinated and 19 involving individuals who were partially vaccinated.
The seven-day average of new cases fell to 218, a decrease of more than 30 per cent from one week earlier.
To date, there have been 77,067 cases reported in Saskatchewan and 73,826 recoveries.
The hospitalizations included 185 people who weren’t fully vaccinated.
The ministry reported there were 3,556 doses of COVID vaccine administered in the province, comprising 1,110 first shots and 2,446 second shots.
To date, 1,656,181 vaccinations have been given in the province, with 787,823 people receiving two doses.
