A 37-year-old woman has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a two-year-old boy in Saskatoon in July of 2020.
Saskatoon police said Monday that officers responded July 8 of last year to a call about an unresponsive toddler at an apartment in the 100 block of Avenue T South. The boy was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
After an investigation by the Saskatoon Police Service’s Child Abuse Unit and the Ministry of Social Services, and after conversations with medical professionals and Crown prosecutors, the Major Crime Section charged the woman.
A media release from the police didn’t say what the woman’s relationship was with the boy, nor did it provide other details about his death.
