Restrictions on how many people you can have in your home or at your event are returning to one Saskatchewan city.
On Monday, Saskatoon city council voted 8-3 in favour of creating a bylaw to limit gathering sizes in the city.
The council’s decision follows Premier Scott Moe’s comments to media earlier Monday morning that more restrictions would not be placed on the province, as Moe said current restrictions are effective enough.
“If you look at where the trajectory of our cases are today, it’s dropping,” Moe said, noting Saskatchewan’s seven-day case average is down about 45 per cent since masking and proof of vaccine measures were put in place in September.
“The measures in place are proven to be effective,” Moe said.
However, high ICU admissions and daily case numbers still in the hundreds are prompting some people to ask for more restrictions to allow Saskatchewan hospitals to stabilize.
The details of the new bylaw are still being decided by council and could be released as early as Friday.
The city has been pushing for more restrictions for weeks and has been looking at creating its own limits.
