Saskatoon police are investigating a complaint of a man lurking around an elementary school talking to students about COVID-19 vaccines.
It happened Friday morning at Chief Whitecap School in Stonebridge.
A suspicious man reportedly went up to the children at recess and told them not to get vaccinated for COVID-19 and to take off their masks.
“SPS received the call around 10:15 a.m., October 8th, 2021, regarding a person disrupting children during recess,” Saskatoon police said in an email to 650 CKOM. “An adult male was reportedly advising children not to get vaccinated and to remove their masks.
“Officers are investigating the incident and advise anyone to call 306-975-8300 (or 911 in an emergency), if a similar situation should arise elsewhere. To our knowledge this is the first incident of its kind reported in the city.”
The school sent a letter to parents that said the man has approached students on three other occasions, both during school hours and after.
“A few senior students reported to a staff member that a man had approached them during recess while they were playing in the park behind the school. The man asked the students about being vaccinated and urged them not to get immunized,” the letter said.
In the letter the school encouraged parents to speak to their children about saying alert and safe.
According to Saskatoon Public Schools, this is the only elementary school of theirs that has reported a circumstance like this.
