People who spend a lot of time on social media were without three of their main platforms for most of the day Monday.
Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were down in parts of the world — including Saskatchewan — for around six hours.
According to the Associated Press, Facebook was “aware that some people are having trouble accessing Facebook app” and was working throughout the day on restoring access to its three platforms.
The outage was noted across North America and in Europe.
The company couldn’t explain what caused the outage, which began at around 9:45 a.m. Saskatchewan time.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri tweeted that it felt like a “snow day.”
Mike Schroepfer, Facebook’s chief technology officer, tweeted “sincere apologies” to all of those who had been impacted by the outage. He blamed “networking issues” and said teams are “working as fast as possible to debug and restore as fast as possible.”
