While most people in Saskatchewan will be able to figure out how to use their QR code to show their proof of COVID-19 vaccination just fine, there are others having problems.
Some people haven’t been able to get an eHealth account to begin with because they don’t have a driver’s licence.
According to Davin Church, eHealth vice-president of programs and technology, those people could get a regular ID card from SGI without the licence component and it would work fine.
With the different kinds of proof, some are worried about forgeries or fakes.
When it comes to the wallet cards, Church said any document has the risk of being forged, but he pointed out there are legal ramifications there.
“(That) is why we’ve worked towards providing more secure options as we move forward,” said Church.
One of those more secure options is the QR code, according to Church. He’s not concerned the code could be forged because there’s digital signature technology built into it and if a code didn’t have that, then the verifier app wouldn’t validate it.
For people who either don’t have a computer or just don’t want to deal with a QR code, Church said eHealth is working on hard-copy proof.
“There will be another process through eHealth, similar to that of what you’d go through for Public Health to access a proof-of-vaccine certificate that, at this point, will have no cost,” said Church.
That certificate is expected to be available in the next couple days, according to Church.
