It might be fall, but the weather is giving no indication of that.
According to Environment Canada, 19 communities had heat records shattered across the province on Tuesday.
Yellow Grass — 89 km south of Regina — was not only the hot spot in the province at 34.1 C, but it was also the hottest place in Canada.
Regina hit 33.3 C, breaking the city’s previous record from 1898. Saskatoon reached 30.8 C, breaking the record set in 1892.
Meteorologist Dave Carlson called the blistering heat surprising.
“It’s very unusual,” he said. “In recent memory, we haven’t really seen much in this way before.
“Some years we have seen some snow begin in the first week of October and it sure doesn’t look like that’s on the card for this coming week.”
Carlson says the records were broken in parts of central and southern Saskatchewan. The most northern point in which a record was broken was at Waskesiu Lake, north of Prince Albert.
