Saskatchewan announced 432 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, the second-highest single-day total in the province since the pandemic started.
The highest daily total remains 439 on Nov. 21.
A resident of Saskatoon died due to COVID, the 617th person from Saskatchewan to die as a result of the virus.
There are 190 COVID patients in Saskatchewan hospitals, including 39 in intensive care. The number of ICU patients increased by seven from Thursday’s report and is the highest it has been since it was 41 on May 9.
The provincial government said 148 of the people in hospital were unvaccinated against COVID.
The number of active cases in the province increased to 3,573, the most since there were 3,702 reported on Jan. 20.
The new cases were reported in the Saskatoon (93), northwest (77), north-central (69), Regina (31), far northwest (22), far northeast (20), southeast (20), northeast (18), central-east (18), central-west (10), south-central (eight), far north-central (four) and southwest (four) zones.
There are 38 cases that don’t have a hometown as yet.
According to the government, 363 of the new cases were unvaccinated people, 43 were people who had received two doses of COVID vaccine, and 26 were people who were partially vaccinated.
The seven-day average of new cases rose again to 366.
To date, there have been 57,952 cases reported in the province. The 273 recoveries reported Thursday increased that total so far to 53,762.
There were 3,750 COVID tests processed in Saskatchewan on Thursday, hiking the total to date to 1,055,858.
The 2,856 COVID vaccinations done in the latest reporting period included 1,269 first doses. The 1,587 second doses given increased the number of people considered fully vaccinated to 705,775.
The latest figures were released about two hours after the provincial government announced some measures to combat the spread of COVID. The measures didn’t include mandatory mask use or the creation of vaccination incentives.
