People in Saskatoon can soon get an up-close look at some of the most famous paintings ever created.
Touted as “an immersive experience,” Imagine Van Gogh arrives Sept. 30 and runs until Nov. 7 at the Thatcher Avenue Warehouse, located at 3630 Thatcher Ave., beside SaskTel Centre.
Using massive projections from the floor all the way to the ceilings, patrons will be able to take in The Starry Night, Irises, Sunflowers and more than 200 other famous paintings from the Dutch artist in a entirely new way.
“The viewer is literally transported on a journey to the heart of the artist’s work. The exhibit brings Van Gogh’s canvases to life in a vivid, spectacular way: the audience will literally enter the artist’s world of dreams,” a news release from SaskTel Centre said.
The exhibit has previously toured through Montreal, Quebec City, Winnipeg, Vancouver, and Edmonton.
“Original canvases are expanded and fragmented, then projected into unusual shapes to emphasize the mesmerizing exaggerations and distortions of Van Gogh’s work. Visitors experience their energy, emotion, and beauty like never before,” said artistic director Annabelle Mauger.
Tickets go on sale Saturday at 11 a.m.
With close attention paid to COVID-19 protocols, SaskTel Centre will allow a limited number of people into the contactless exhibit on a timed-entry basis.
Masks and physical distancing will be mandatory and hand sanitizer will be provided.
