If you have something to say about proposed property tax rates in Saskatoon, now is your chance.
A special Finance Committee meeting will be held on Aug. 31 at 1 p.m. to review what’s called the “indicative tax rates” for 2022 and 2023. According to the city, the rates are what is required to keep all City services and service levels the same.
Back in June, the Governance and Priorities Committee voted to defer setting the rates to a later date, to explore options to address a big potential property tax increase.
Estimated property tax rates for 2022 and 2023 are 5.96 per cent and 5.42 per cent, respectively.
Finance Director Kari Smith earlier said the proposed new tax rates would amount to about $10 per month more than what people are currently paying, for someone with an average $371,000 home in 2022. It would be just shy of that amount for 2023.
Final budget deliberations and property tax decisions will be made by council on Nov. 29 and 30 and Dec. 1.
Anyone who wants to submit their input can do so by mailing or dropping of a letter at City Hall, by faxing it to 306-975-2784 or by submitting a letter or request to speak to council online.
