Three levels of government are working together to improve the water treatment plant in Outlook.
In a news release Friday, the province announced more than $5.3 million for work on potable water infrastructure in the town about 100 km southwest of Saskatoon.
Of that money, $2.9 million will come from the federal government, with anotther $2.4 million from the province and $1.9 million from the municipality.
The goal is to make sure there will be safe drinking water long term for Outlook as well as in the RM of Rudy, Milden, two nearby Hutterite colonies and the area’s golf course and regional park.
The money will go towards installing UV disinfection, improving water flow through the reservoirs and installing a new water intake from the river.
Jim Carr, a minister and the federal government’s representative for the prairies, weighed in on the announcement.
“(The project) is another example of what we can accomplish when all orders of government work together to advance our shared priorities,” he said in the news release.
Don McMorris, Saskatchewan’s government relations minister, is also looking forward to the project, saying that his government is proud to invest “in this critical infrastructure project that will serve residents and businesses in Outlook with reliable, long-term access to safe drinking water.”
