A man from Swift Current is facing 12 charges after allegedly committing a break and enter and having a stolen, restricted weapon.
Swift Current RCMP say the incident occurred at a residence in the zero block of 6th Avenue NE in Swift Current on Friday around 2:30 p.m.
Officers were dispatched to the incident and an investigation showed that a man broke into the home while people were inside. The occupants called police and the man fled without taking anything.
The man was reportedly unknown to the residents.
He was later seen speeding southbound on Highway 4. Swift Current RCMP officers sent out a crime watch advisory, requesting the public notify police if they saw the man or his vehicle. Around 6:30 p.m., an individual reported the suspect’s vehicle was on Main Street in Hodgeville.
The man was arrested without incident in Hodgeville and a firearm that had been stolen two days earlier from a different Swift Current residence was recovered, along with ammunition and a bag of methamphetamine. Police reportedly seized these items.
A number of officers from various detachments were involved in the arrest of the suspect, including the Swift Current Municipal Detachment, Swift Current Rural Detachment, Swift Current general investigation section, Saskatchewan RCMP roving traffic unit and police dog services
The man is now facing 12 charges, including possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes and unauthorized possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm. He has also been charged for possession of a Schedule 1 drug, theft of a minivan and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
The man made his first appearance in provincial court in Swift Current Monday and has been remanded to appear Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
