Two-year-old Nevin McIntyre Jr. loves to watch the big trucks go up and down the road in front of his house as the City of Saskatoon does construction work.
His mom, Jamie Billette, says little Nevin’s day was made Tuesday when one of the workers knocked on their door with a surprise.
“He said they noticed him sitting there all morning watching him work so they wanted to give him a gift,” Jamie said.
Nevin was gifted a toy front-end loader and his adorable reaction was caught on camera.
“He was super-excited …,” Jamie said. “I was live on Tik Tok and that’s how I was able to catch the footage.”
Thank you to Jamie Billette for sharing this adorable TikTok with the City. Our Roadways crews are always excited to wave hi to children and adults alike and share the enthusiasm for their equipment. Who knows? Maybe they'll recruit a future City employee! #YXEServiceInAction #Roadways

Although road construction can be an inconvenience for some adults, the city says children waving and excited to see their equipment is a regular thing.
“We always appreciate kudos from residents when they see us doing a good job,” said Goran Saric, the city’s director of roadways, fleet and support. “Our crews regularly encounter children waving, excited to see their equipment in action.
“The enthusiasm and excitement is infectious. In this instance, a utility cut repair crew took time to make a child’s day when they noticed the interest in what they were up to in the neighbourhood.
“These could be future city workers, and crews are happy to say ‘Hi!’ and let children see what a job in public service looks like.”
