Saskatoon’s airport is seeing about 35 per cent of its 2019 passenger numbers — and it views that as a big improvement over 2020 totals.
Andrew Leeming, the vice-president of operational excellence at the airport, gave 650 CKOM an update about what flying looks like today.
With COVID-19 restrictions being lifted, families and friends across Canada have finally been able to reunite, post-pandemic. But the airport needs more borders to open to help the business thrive once again.
“We certainly would need the business component, and I think that opening up the U.S.A. or those type(s) of opportunities would go a long way to making that happen,” Leeming said. “Safely, of course.”
Although masks are off for most people, there are many different rules when it comes to flying.
“We are still recommending masks. Most travellers have to really wear a mask as part of their journey regardless,” Leeming said. “Federal regulations apply at the airport.
“For even those who are travelling within the country, and reuniting with family, just look at our website and look at the requirements in the jurisdiction where you are flying to. That way, you are aware of any particulars that may be in effect in those areas that might not be the same here in Saskatchewan.”
