A five-hour standoff Tuesday night ended when Saskatoon police used a Taser on a 52-year-old Langham man.
In a media release Wednesday, the Saskatoon Police Service said members from Patrol, the Tactical Support Unit, the Crisis Negotiation Team and the Canine Unit were deployed during the incident.
Police said they were called about an altercation involving three armed people at an RV park near Highway 16 and 71st Street West at about 9:15 p.m.
Officers found two men and a woman outside of a motorhome and arrested one of the men and the woman. The 52-year-old man barricaded himself inside the motorhome and police believed he had a gun.
“The suspect acted in an aggressive manner towards police, threatening them and at one point, threw a knife at officers,” the police release said. “Police successfully deployed a conducted energy weapon (CEW) and took the suspect into custody without further incident.”
People who were camping nearby were evacuated during the standoff.
After arresting the man, officers found a rifle inside the motorhome. The man was charged with four gun-related offences, assaulting a police officer and causing a disturbance.
A 40-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, both from Saskatoon, were charged with causing a disturbance.
