11:00 – The discovery of 751 unmarked graves at the site of a former residential school in Saskatchewan came as a shock to many last week, but Dr. Scott Hamilton was surprised it didn’t happen sooner. Hamilton authored a 2015 report for the TRC entitled “Where are the Children buried?” In his report, Hamilton used existing records and research combined with new technologies to try to determine the locations of residential school cemeteries. Hamilton joins Gormley to discuss why the work did not proceed immediately after the TRC, and how many other grave sites might remain undiscovered in Canada.
