A Wahpeton First Nation man was arrested Thursday after pulling a gun on an RCMP officer during a traffic stop.
Around 12:30 p.m., Big River RCMP noticed a suspicious vehicle near Main Street in Debden.
Officers discovered the vehicle was stolen and tried speaking to the man standing outside of the vehicle. That’s when he pulled his gun out and fled on foot.
Four separate RCMP services, Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment conservation officers and Saskatchewan Highway Patrol officers began searching for the suspect.
As a precaution, Debden Public School went into lockdown.
The man was found around three hours later in Debden.
Kyle Standing from Wahpeton First Nation, wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for violating the conditions of his parole, was charged with multiple offences, including one count of assault on a police officer with a weapon, three counts of obstructing a peace officer and one count of carrying a concealed weapon.
Standing appeared in court on Thursday. He will remain in custody until his next appearance on July 21.
