The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has announced its plan for distributing vaccines to students in Saskatoon.
Youths 12 years of age and older will be able to get their shot this week at either a drop-in clinic with their families at Prairieland Park or wait for the vaccines to come to their schools.
The plan is to visit every high school in the Saskatoon area, says Jenny Cushon, vaccine selection chief for the SHA in Saskatoon.
“Elementary schools that are within the vicinity of that high school will be invited to those high schools,” said Cushon, adding some elementary schools will be included as well.
Consent forms and information about the Pfizer vaccine were sent home to parents last week, but will also be available at the clinics.
“In Saskatchewan, anyone who is of age 13 or over and if they understand the benefits and possible reactions from the vaccine, they can consent themselves to vaccination as a mature minor,” she said. “Anyone who is 12 would require consent from their parent.”
The drop-in clinics for teenagers will be hosted at Prairieland Park on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from noon to 8 p.m.
