Two Regina Pats and one member of the Saskatoon Blades were named to the WHL’s East Division all-star team Monday.
Rookie forward Connor Bedard and veteran defenceman Ryker Evans were the Pats selected to the all-star team after their showings in the East Division hub in Regina.
Blades netminder Nolan Maier also made the team, as did Prince Albert product Braden Schneider, a defenceman with the Brandon Wheat Kings.
Winnipeg Ice forward Peyton Krebs and Wheat Kings forward Ben McCartney rounded out the team.
The 15-year-old Bedard, the first player in WHL history to be granted exceptional status by the Canadian Hockey League, had 12 goals and 16 assists in 15 games with the Pats. He was leading the WHL in scoring before leaving to represent Canada at the 2021 IIHF world under-18 championship in mid-April.
Evans, 19, set a career high with 25 assists during the 2020-21 season and finished second among WHL defencemen with 28 points. He tied Bedard for the Pats’ scoring lead.
Maier, 20, finished fifth among WHL goaltenders with 12 wins. He had a 12-3-1-1 record, a 2.34 goals-against average, a .915 save percentage and two shutouts. The Yorkton product also set the Blades’ franchise record with 91 career wins.
Schneider, 19, recorded 27 points (including five goals) in 22 games to finish third in scoring among WHL defencemen. The New York Rangers prospect played for Canada at the world junior hockey championship and was named to roster for the 2021 IIHF world championship.
The East Division’s individual awards are to be announced Tuesday.
