Actor Gavin MacLeod, who starred on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “The Love Boat,” died Saturday at his California home.
He was 90.
Born Allan George See in Mount Kisco, N.Y., MacLeod’s show business career included a run as TV newswriter Murray Slaughter on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” from 1970 to ’77.
Castmate Ed Asner paid tribute to MacLeod in a tweet Saturday.
My heart is broken. Gavin was my brother, my partner in crime (and food) and my comic conspirator. I will see you in a bit Gavin. Tell the gang I will see them in a bit. Betty! It’s just you and me now. pic.twitter.com/se4fwh7G1G

After “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” ended, MacLeod immediately was cast as Capt. Merrill Stubing on “The Love Boat.” That show ran for 249 episodes over the next 10 years.
MacLeod’s early career featured roles on a number of TV shows, including “Perry Mason,” “Hawaii Five-O,” “My Favorite Martian,” “Hogan’s Heroes” and “The Dick Van Dyke Show.” It was on that latter show that he first worked with Mary Tyler Moore.
MacLeod had numerous movie roles as well, including in “The Sand Pebbles” with Steve McQueen, “Operation Petticoat” starring Cary Grant, “The Party” with Peter Sellers, and “Kelly’s Heroes” alongside Clint Eastwood.
He’s survived by his wife and four children.
