More spots are now open at the SaskTel Centre walk-in immunization clinic, thanks to Indigenous Services Canada.
The expansion is from 300 patients per day to 600 per day, doubling overall capacity at the clinic run by the Saskatoon Tribal Council (STC).
Tribal Chief Mark Arcand joined Gerald Bauman on the Brent Loucks Show on Tuesday.
“People have been dressing warm, they’ve been wearing blankets, we’ve been having hot chocolate (and) coffee for people standing in line. (We’re) trying to accommodate the best we can,” he said.
The change is in effect until Friday, according to Arcand.
He said the wait times have been around two to three hours, but there is a lull period during the lunch hour. Around 250 walk-ins were being taken last week at the STC clinic.
“It’s humbling because we don’t only see individuals, we see families — mothers and fathers bringing in their children 12 and up. It’s a good sight to see,” he said.
“As long as they’re getting vaccinated somewhere, that’s a good thing.”
The clinic opens at 9 a.m. Monday through Friday, and closes at 4 p.m.
