The Winnipeg Jets aren’t going to get a fair shake for what happened in a four-game sweep of the Edmonton Oilers.
The reason? Many will be putting a lot of attention on the greatest player on the planet having his team flame out again in back-to-back seasons.
Last year, it was the Chicago Blackhawks upsetting the favoured Oilers in the play-in round and now the Jets win in a sweep.
The Jets played the way you have to against Connor McDavid and company. You have to batten down the hatches against the Oilers’ top line and hope you get a break or two — or in this case, four.
And now for the Oilers, you have to spend the cap money they’ll have this off-season to get more offensive help beyond McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, or this will continue to happen.
However, it seems we’ve been saying this for the last three off-seasons, so forgive us if we’re skeptical anything will be different a year from now.
