Nine university football players with ties to Saskatchewan have been named to the Team West roster for the 2021 U Sports East-West Bowl.
Unfortunately for the players, the game won’t be played due to COVID-19. The 2020 all-star contest also was cancelled due to the pandemic.
The annual game highlights players who are eligible for the following year’s CFL draft.
Five members of the Saskatchewan Huskies were selected for Team West: Defensive back Charlie Ringland (who hails from Winnipeg), defensive lineman Nathan Cherry (Saskatoon), kicker David Solie (Saskatoon), offensive lineman Noah Zerr (Langenburg) and running back Adam Machart (Saskatoon).
Three Regina Rams — defensive back Jaxon Ford, receiver Bennett Stusek and linebacker Ryder Varga — also were named to the West squad. All three are from Regina.
Yorkton product Peter Kozushka, an offensive lineman with the Alberta Golden Bears, also was selected.
In total, 110 players from 27 U Sports schools were named to the rosters.
