A 17-year-old boy is facing several charges after Saskatoon police clocked a vehicle doing nearly 170 kilometres per hour in a 50 zone early Friday.
According to the Saskatoon Police Service, officers tried to stop a vehicle at about 12:30 a.m., after seeing it heading south on McOrmond Drive at 115 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. The driver refused to stop and continued driving erratically.
The vehicle reached 168 km/h on Brighton Boulevard before turning onto Taube Avenue, then continued through a field. The police Air Support Unit saw the driver abandon the vehicle in the 200 block of Stilling Union.
A canine unit subsequently found the driver hiding in a yard. After being arrested, he was taken to hospital for treatment of dog bites.
Police later determined the vehicle had been stolen.
The teen, who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with dangerous driving, evading police, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and breaching court orders.
