Saskatoon police have confirmed one of their officers has resigned after an investigation into whether that person attended the “Children’s Freedom Rally” on April 24.
In a one-line statement, the Saskatoon Police Service says the review into the officer’s activities has ended with that resignation.
About 120 people attended the rally, held at Kiwanis Park. It was billed as a maskless, family-friendly event complete with face painting, a fishing pond and balloon animals.
Prior to the event, Mayor Charlie Clark implored residents not to attend, calling it “irresponsible and dangerous.”
Police set up roadblocks in the area at the time, in every direction. Several days after the rally, 11 “key participants” were handed tickets. It’s not known if the Saskatoon police officer was one of those who received a ticket.
The Saskatoon Police Association sent out a statement that reads: “The Saskatoon Police Association is aware that the officer has resigned. We continue to support the recommended public health measures. We have no further comment.”
