Sunday started off a bit hectic at the Saskatoon Fire Department.
At 3:11 a.m., police alerted the department that the plane patrol spotted a blaze on the 900 block of Temperance Street. When crews arrived, they found a detached garage on fire.
Investigators think it was caused by improper extinguishment of an open air fire pit, with damage estimated to be $40,000. No one was hurt.
The department took the opportunity to remind the public that βit never hurts to use more water than not enough when extinguishing your open air fire.β
βA smoldering fire or hot embers not fully soaked in water can re-ignite,β the release reads.
Later on Sunday morning, at 5:30 a.m., crews were sent to a suite on Pearson Place in the Pacific Heights neighbourhood.
There, a stove had caught on fire. A person living there tried to use a fire extinguisher, but crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.
The cause was an unattended pot on the stove, with damage estimated at $20,000. One person was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.
