An Access Transit driver who was dropping off a passenger is responsible for the bus being hit by a train on Jan. 20.
Traffic in the area was tied up for about an hour after the incident.
According to an internal investigation done by the City of Saskatoon, the driver parked in an area where the bus was encroaching on the railway crossing at 20th Street West and Avenue L South, even though there were safe alternatives available.
According to an earlier release from the city, the operator of the bus had parked near Station 20 West to help a passenger on the bus, with another passenger still in the vehicle. No one was injured.
A report from the City of Saskatoon indicates that “remedial action” has taken place with the operator involved, while information sessions were conducted with all Access Transit drivers to ensure they don’t park in the same area again.
The city is working with CP Rail on crossing improvement construction and will also clearly re-establish the curb and sidewalk areas.
