The number of vaccines given in Saskatchewan is very close to the 400,000 mark.
In its latest update Sunday, the Ministry of Health reported that 7,451 doses were administered, raising the total so far in the province to 399,745.
That means 57 per cent of people aged 40 or older have now received their first shot, while 30 per cent of the general population have rolled up their sleeve at least once.
The new doses were given in the Saskatoon (2,517), northwest (1,102), southeast (913), north-central (615), northeast (596), southwest (495), Regina (430), central-east (276), south-central (79), far northeast (48), far northwest (39) and far north-central (nine) areas. The location is under investigation for 260 new doses.
A look at the numbers
Two more people in Saskatchewan have died from COVID.
Both were in the northwest zone: one person in their 50’s and another who was 80 or older. Since last March, 473 people have lost their lives to the virus in Saskatchewan.
Active cases dropped to 2,515 as 249 new cases and 290 recoveries were reported.
The new cases are in the Regina (101), Saskatoon (42), southeast (27), far northwest (17), central-east (15), northwest (12), southwest (eight), north-central (seven), south-central (six), northeast (five) and central-west (one) regions. Contact tracers are still looking into the location of eight new cases, while one previously reported case was assigned to each of the Regina, northwest, far northeast and far north-central areas.
The seven-day daily case average now sits at 251, or 20.5 cases per 100,000 people.
There are 186 people in hospital. Of those, 49 are in intensive care in the Regina (30), Saskatoon (13), central-east (three), north-central (two) and southwest (one) regions.
Testing continues to reveal more COVID variant cases, as 146 were discovered. So far, there have been 6,062 variant cases discovered in the Regina (3,447), Saskatoon (619), southeast (617), south-central (455), central-east (251), northwest (149), north-central (88), northwest (81), central-west (77) and far northeast (two) areas, as well as 68 cases where the location is under investigation.
An additional 3,423 COVID tests were performed in the province, raising the total since the pandemic hit to 737,179.
