The largest livestock show in Canada is planning a return to Regina — in person.
Canadian Western Agribition announced Thursday it is confident in its ability to hold a full show in November. The 2020 event was cancelled due to COVID-19.
In a news release, CEO Chris Lane explained the plan.
“It will have been 24 months since the last Agribition and we’re ready to get back to business in November. We’re working on a plan to welcome as many people as possible, host as many events as possible, and do it all safely and respectfully of any guidelines,” he said.
He hopes to bring back all the usual fanfare: 12 national breed shows, rodeos, shopping and a brand-new barbecue competition.
While it isn’t a guarantee that public health measures will be lifted by then, Lane believes there is a lot working in the show’s favour.
“We are confident in the vaccine rollout plan in Saskatchewan and here in Canada and time is on our side. Agribition at the end of November comes at a good time in the vaccine rollout plan. (We’re) confident that we will be able to see each other once again,” he said during the show’s annual general meeting Thursday.
“(It’s time to) talk about turning the page now from a clearly difficult year in 2020 to an exciting one in 2021.”
Lane said that now, organizers’ focus is on planning on different scenarios for any possible health restrictions that could be in place in November.
The show’s cancellation last year did cause some financial troubles. Agribition reported an operating loss of $773,989.
