A man on the lam from Saskatchewan since 2007 has been arrested in Montreal.
The Saskatchewan RCMP said Wednesday that 62-year-old Robert Charbonneau had been arrested Sunday at a Montreal airport on a Canada-wide warrant that originated in Gravelbourg.
The Mounties said Charbonneau was wanted in connection with an alleged fraud at a school that occurred more than 15 years ago.
Media reports at the time said Charbonneau was the director of College Mathieu. It’s alleged he took more than $100,000 from the corporation that runs the school.
“A complaint was received by Gravelbourg RCMP in 2005 in relation to alleged fraud in 2004 and 2005 involving a school and involving a significant amount of money,” the RCMP said in a media release.
Charbonneau was charged in 2007 with fraud over $5,000, but failed to appear in court in Swift Current. A Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest, and that warrant finally was executed Sunday.
The RCMP said Charbonneau appeared in a Montreal court on Monday. There wasn’t any information provided on whether he’ll be returned to Saskatchewan to face the fraud charge.
