Nearly one year after 20-year-old Damian Moosomin died, charges have been laid against four individuals in relation to the North Battleford man’s death.
RCMP Major Crime Unit South conducted 11 months of work in the murder investigation. Moosomin’s body was found on May 15, four days after he was reported missing.
“Investigators worked diligently since last May; gathering evidence, conducting interviews and continuing to push forward,” Sgt. Donna Zawislak of RCMP Major Crime/Historical Case Unit South said in a media release. “What began as a missing person investigation has progressed to charges of murder and accessory after the fact.”
Twenty-three-year-old Tye Partridge from Moosomin First Nation is charged with one count of first-degree murder and 32-year-old Jannay Blackbird from Saulteaux First Nation is charged with one count of second-degree murder.
Stormy Wapass-Semaganis, 23, of Edmonton and 41-year-old Melissa Semaganis from Poundmaker First Nation are each charged with one count of accessory after the fact to murder.
Partridge, Blackbird and Melissa Semaganis are to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on April 27. Wapass-Semaganis is to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on April 28.
Editor’s note: A previous version of this story stated Melissa Segamanis is from Sweetgrass First Nation. RCMP provided updated information correcting that detail.
