Whenever someone in sports complains about something, you always have to think of what are they making an excuse for.
There were two examples this week, one being Connor McDavid blasting the NHL for having the Edmonton Oilers play on the same day of Colby Cave’s celebration of life. They watched it as a team earlier on Saturday and then laid an egg while playing in Calgary.
McDavid said that was a lot to ask of the guys.
Oh, really?
I just watched 15-year old Connor Bedard play his heart out for the Regina Pats three days after his grandfather died tragically in a car accident.
The Oilers have had a year to mourn their friend and teammate.
Then in the NBA you have Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban complaining about the play-in tournament that will see teams ranked seventh to 10th play for the final two playoff spots. Hmmm. Why is he complaining? Oh, right. His Mavericks are currently seventh and may actually have to play in these play-in games.
You wonder what McDavid would have said if the Oilers won on Saturday and wonder if Cuban would love the play-in tournament if his team were in ninth or 10th?
