Those ticketed will soon be able to avoid going to court to resolve their tickets in Saskatchewan.
An online system is being developed and traffic tickets will be the first type of ticket the system will handle. These tickets make up 90 per cent of all charges for provincial offences and include tickets for speeding and cellphone use while driving.
The new system will allow defendants to go online to request an extension on the payment due date, enrol in the Fine Option Program to start paying earlier or take part in an early resolution discussion with a prosecutor.
The first phase of this system is expected to be operational by the fall after the government introduced The Summary Offences Procedure Amendment Act, 2021 on Monday.
