Saskatoon Fire Department crews will be getting some much-needed rest Sunday after a busy early-morning.
Two calls for fires came into the department within seven minutes of one another Sunday morning. The second call involved two homes.
The first call, which came in at 3:14 a.m., was a report of a fire in an apartment suite on the 1100 block of Avenue W North, near 33rd St. and Circle Dr. Once crews arrived, they found the suite filled with smoke and a couch on fire.
It took just 17 minutes for everything to be brought under control. The cause of the blaze was determined to be “smoking material,” according to the Saskatoon Fire Departments’ press release. The damage estimate is pegged at $25,000.
At 3:21 a.m., while crews were still on scene on Avenue W North, the second call came in for a house fire on the 300 block of Avenue S South.
Once crews arrived, they found two homes were on fire. Additional engines were brought in, along with the other crews joining the fight following the first dispatch. A back-up fire investigator was called to assess the damage.
It’s estimated that the damage is around $500,000 to both properties. A cause has not been determined.
No one was injured in the flurry of Saskatoon fires.
