Remember two years ago, when we were allowed to go to Mosaic Stadium and hang out?
Well, it was also two years ago Mosaic Stadium was filling up with basketball fans, bandwagon or not, as the Toronto Raptors were on the run to the NBA championship.
What a difference 24 months make.
This is a similar collapse as the Ottawa Senators when they were a goal away from the Stanley Cup final and now are a laughingstock.
While the Raptors are not quite a punch line, they have now lost eight straight for the first time since 2012, when the new Mosaic Stadium didn’t even have full approval yet.
But we should have seen it coming. That championship team used a rotation of eight players during the clinching game. Four of them — Kawhi Leonard, Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka and Danny Green — are gone.
Now it’s president Masai Ujiri’s test. Did he win a Hail Mary with Kawhi for one year? Or can he lead this team back to a point where even in Saskatchewan thousands would jump on the bandwagon?
