Two Saskatoon companies have been fined in connection with a death at a worksite in Corman Park nearly three years ago.
According to the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, a worker was fatally injured after falling through an unsecured opening in a floor on June 29, 2018.
Norwood Developments Ltd. was charged with contravening The Saskatchewan Employment Act for failing to ensure that “every work process or procedure carried on at every place of employment” is safe for everyone on the worksite.
The company pleaded guilty on Feb. 4 of this year and was fined $65,000 along with a surcharge of $26,000.
On the same day, Capella Cabinetry Inc. pleaded guilty to a charge under The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 1996 for failing to provide approved industrial headwear and requiring a worker to use it, resulting in the death of a worker.
That company was fined $40,000 with a $16,000 surcharge.
