Two people are in hospital following a single-vehicle crash that shut down the Broadway Bridge and snarled the morning commute on Wednesday.
At approximately 1:40 a.m., Saskatoon police officers observed a suspicious car in the area of 17th Street West and Avenue N South.
Police determined the registered owner of the vehicle had outstanding warrants. As officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the car fled toward downtown and continued travelling up the Broadway Bridge.
Near Saskatchewan Crescent, officers deployed stop sticks but, in an attempt to avoid them, the car struck a light post before coming to a stop on the sidewalk.
The driver and passenger, 26 and 33, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Firefighters used hydraulic cutting tools to remove the pair from the vehicle.
The bridge was reopened to northbound traffic at about 9:30 a.m.
