For the first time in the pandemic, someone under the age of 19 has died with the virus.
The death occurred in an individual from the northwest region who was under the age of 19, according to the latest news release from the Ministry of Health.
It was also revealed in Sunday’s update that another individual died with the virus in the 40-49 age group from the far northwest zone.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 398 COVID related deaths.
Active COVID cases took a dip in Saskatchewan Sunday, with the new cases, recoveries and deaths combining to drop the active case total to 1,518.
The new cases are located in the far northwest (six), far north-central (one), far northeast (three), northwest (six), north-central (eight), Saskatoon (19), central-west (two), central-east (eight), Regina (50), southwest (two), south-central (five) and southeast (six) zones.
One previously reported case was assigned to the Regina area.
The seven-day average of daily new cases is now 152, or 12.4 cases per 100,000 people.
There are 136 people in hospital across the province. Of those, 22 are in intensive care in the Saskatoon (11), Regina (nine), north-central (one) and central-east (one) areas.
Since last March, there have been 29,709 total cases and 27,794 recoveries.
There were 2,263 COVID tests performed in the province Saturday, raising that total to 594,116.
Vaccination update
Vaccines continue to roll out across the province.
There were 1,428 new doses given, raising the total to 91,884. Throughout the province, 63,873 people have received their first shot, while 28,011 have received both. The new vaccines were administered in the Saskatoon (522), Regina (292), northwest (388) and north-central (226) zones.
Two new shipments of the Pfizer vaccine are expected to land in the province this week.
Tuesday, Regina and Saskatoon are expected to get 3,510 doses each. Wednesday, Yorkton and Prince Albert are set to receive 1,170 doses each, while North Battleford will get 4,680.
