After shivering our way through February, milder days are in store for Saskatchewan.
Environment Canada climatologist David Phillips says the month of March will come in like a lamb and leave like one as well.
“We see more of a Pacific flow, (a) southerly flow. Really, from parts of eastern Alberta right through Atlantic Canada, we’re calling for March to be warmer than normal,” said Phillips. “I think we’re really behind the rough spot of winter for sure.”
His weather models show the warm trend continuing into April and May.
Even with the rosy prediction, Phillips cautions not to write the obituary on winter just yet.
March is known for cold temperatures and heavy snowfalls.
“You get, from March 1 and on, about 25 per cent of your annual snowfall. You could still get those days below -20 C, but often they are short-lived,” he said.
We also have longer days to look forward to. Phillips said we will add about 3 1/2 minutes of daylight each day.
